New York Times Poll: Unprecedented Decline in American Support for Israel

SadaNews: Results from a poll conducted by the American newspaper New York Times show a sharp decline in support among American citizens for Israel.

According to the results, 35% of Americans stated they support the Palestinians, compared to 34% who support Israel - a decrease from the situation at the beginning of the war, when 47% indicated their support for Israel and 20% for the Palestinians, according to SadaNews translation.

Most Americans also oppose the continuation of U.S. aid to Israel, with over 60% saying that Israel should end the war even if not all hostages are released.

About 40% of American citizens believe that Israel is intentionally killing Palestinian civilians in Gaza, which is double the number from the beginning of the war according to SadaNews translation. Among those aged 30 and younger, over 70% of Americans oppose continued aid to Israel.

The majority of the decline in support for Israel comes from the Democratic Party, where 54% say they support the Palestinians and only 13% support Israel (compared to 34% supporting Israel and 31% supporting the Palestinians at the beginning of the war), but there has also been a decrease in support among Republicans — now 64% support Israel, down from 76% at the start of the war.
