The "Teen Accounts" Format to be Globally Implemented on "Facebook" and "Messenger"

SadaNews - The American group "Meta" announced in a post on its blog that it will expand the geographical scope of the "Teen Accounts" format, based on its social network "Facebook" and its dedicated messaging service "Messenger", to the entire world, just a few months after implementing it in several countries, including the United States.

The group stated in its post: "We have placed hundreds of millions of young people in Teen Accounts on (Instagram), (Facebook), and (Messenger), and now we are working on expanding it to include teens around the world on (Facebook) and (Messenger)," according to the "French Press Agency".

These accounts tailored for users aged 13-17 include protective settings for young users that significantly limit "inappropriate content and unwanted communication." The "Teen Account" is activated automatically, and users under the age of 16 cannot change these settings without parental consent.

After first providing these accounts on the "Instagram" platform, in September 2024, "Meta" announced in April that it would expand these features to include "Facebook" and "Messenger" in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

In April, "Meta" clarified that these settings allow for the limitation of notifications received by users at night, and these users "receive reminders to log out of the app after using it for 60 minutes, and only people who are already among their followers or who have already communicated with them can contact them."

The use of social media by teenagers has raised concerns in recent years, particularly regarding the time they spend in front of screens and the weak oversight on some platforms.
