Raising the Palestinian Flag Above the Palestinian Embassy in London

SadaNews - This afternoon, on Monday, the flag of the State of Palestine was raised above the Palestinian embassy in London, in the presence of British Minister of State for the Middle East, Hamish Falconer, several ambassadors, and representatives of various parties.

The Palestinian Ambassador to Britain, Hussam Zomlot, stated that raising the Palestinian flag does not mark the end of our struggle, but is a new step towards freedom. After a century of denial, the British government is taking a step to recognize the State of Palestine.

He added that this recognition represents a historic moment and a challenge for the truth, and a rejection of genocide and occupation, as well as attempts to erase Palestinian identity.

He continued that international recognition is more than a diplomatic initiative; it is an acknowledgment that Palestine has always been the land of the Palestinian people, who possess unparalleled resilience and courage.

He noted that 34 students from Gaza are arriving in London to continue their studies, after studying hard and achieving success despite genocide, hunger, and fear, which serves as an example of the spirit of Palestine and its people, who raise the banner of the flag in order to build a promising future.

For his part, Falconer stated that his country's recognition of the Palestinian state is a historic decision, emphasizing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

He confirmed that the British government is committed to the rights of Palestinians, explaining that lasting peace depends on a two-state solution.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced last night, Sunday, that the United Kingdom officially recognizes the State of Palestine, in a move described as historic.

This announcement coincided with the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where yesterday, alongside Britain, Australia, Portugal, and Canada also officially recognized the Palestinian state, raising the number of countries recognizing the State of Palestine to 153, out of 193 member states in the United Nations, with more countries set to join later, including Luxembourg, San Marino, Belgium, Andorra, France, and Malta.
