Syrian Foreign Minister Announces a Plan for a Solution in Sweida
SadaNews - Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaybani, announced a 7-step roadmap for a solution in the province of Sweida in southern Syria.
This announcement came during a joint press conference in the capital, Damascus, on Tuesday with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi and the U.S. special envoy to Syria, Thomas Barak, following the third meeting between the three parties since July.
Al-Shaybani explained that the Syrian government has laid out "a clear roadmap for action that ensures rights, supports justice, promotes community reconciliation, and opens the way for healing wounds that need to be mended," stressing that "this roadmap is based on practical steps with the support of Jordan and the United States."
Its items are as follows:
First: "Hold accountable everyone who assaults civilians and their properties in full coordination with the international system for investigation and inquiry."
Second: "Ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian and medical aid without interruption."
Third: "Compensate the victims, restore villages and towns, and facilitate the return of displaced persons."
Fourth: "Restore essential services and prepare conditions for the return of normal life."
Fifth: "Deploy local forces from the Ministry of Interior to protect roads and secure the movement of people and trade."
Sixth: "Work on revealing the fate of the missing and returning detainees and those abducted to their families from all parties."
Seventh: "Launch an internal reconciliation process in which the people of Sweida participate from all components."
Al-Shaybani emphasized that "Sweida belongs to all its people, and we are working to restore normal life away from disputes and conflicts."
"The security of Syria is an extension of the security of Jordan"
For his part, the Jordanian Foreign Minister stressed that "the unity of Syria, its security, and stability is a fundamental pillar of the security and stability of the region," adding, "We want Syria to stabilize, rise, and rebuild after years of destruction and suffering endured by the Syrian people; to start practical steps towards a bright future for all Syrians."
Safadi considered that "Israel is the only party seeking to divide Syria because it does not want it to stabilize," stressing, "We reject the division of Syria, and this is not only Jordan's position but an Arab and international stance."
He added that "a stable and secure Syria is a guarantee for the security and stability of the region."
It is noteworthy that last July, Sweida witnessed armed clashes that lasted a week, resulting in hundreds of deaths, followed by a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on the 19th of the same month.
The new Syrian administration has been making intensive efforts to ensure the security, unity, stability, and sovereignty of the country since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, after 24 years in power (2000 - 2024).
