President Abbas Meets a Delegation from the Palestinian Community in the United Kingdom
SadaNews - The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, met tonight with a delegation from the Palestinian community in the United Kingdom, on the sidelines of his visit to the British capital, London.
The president informed the delegation about the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, the political developments in light of the stalemate in the political process, and the conditions lived by our people due to the occupation and its aggressive practices against their land and Islamic and Christian holy sites, as well as the ongoing settlement expansion.
The president also updated the community delegation on the immediate need to respond to international efforts to establish a ceasefire, allow humanitarian aid, withdraw Israeli occupation forces completely from the Gaza Strip, assume the State of Palestine full responsibilities there, release the Palestinian funds held by the Israeli occupation government, and halt all unilateral actions including settlement activities, settler terrorism, and annexation.
Abbas emphasized the Palestinian position on the necessity of achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, which leads to the establishment of an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
The president praised the role of the Palestinian community in Britain in supporting our people, reiterating the importance of its role in shaping a supportive British public opinion for our national cause.
The meeting was attended by: Head of International Relations at the Palestine Liberation Organization Ziad Abu Amr, the president’s diplomatic advisor Majdi Khaldi, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the United Kingdom, Hussam Zomlot.
President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in the United Kingdom on Sunday evening, for a state visit upon the kind invitation of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which will last three days.
