Djokovic Sets Up Date with Alcaraz in US Open Semifinals
SadaNews - Novak Djokovic reaffirmed his dominance over fourth-ranked Taylor Fritz by defeating him 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 on Tuesday, setting up a highly anticipated clash with Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open tennis semifinals.
The 38-year-old Serbian arrived at Arthur Ashe Stadium after having beaten Fritz in all ten of their previous meetings, but he had to fight hard at times to overcome last year's runner-up and stay on track for his 25th Grand Slam title.
Djokovic said, "It was a very close match. It could have gone either way. I was fortunate to save some critical break points in the second set."
He added, "For most of the second and third sets, he was the better player. In this type of match, a few points can decide the winner. Luckily, it was on my side, especially at the end of the fourth set."
The Serbian continued, "The last game was nerve-wracking; honestly, it was a tough match for Taylor to end with a double fault. He didn't deserve that, but he fought hard and it was a great tournament for him."
He noted, "I didn't feel like I was dominant from the baseline. During many moments in my service game, I was just trying to survive and fight for every ball... I'm proud of the fight I showed... I'm still enjoying this sport."
Djokovic, who is seeking his fifth title at Flushing Meadows, celebrated the victory with a dance for his daughter Tara.
He concluded, "My daughter will evaluate me tomorrow based on how well I performed this dance. She taught me how to do it. It’s a dance to a song that is very popular among teenagers and children worldwide, but I hadn’t known about it before."
