
Foreign Minister Meets Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Italian Senate
SadaNews - Foreign and Expatriates Minister Farseen Agabikian Shahin met with Senator Stefania Craxi, the Chairwoman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Italian Senate.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Italy, Muna Abu Amara, the Director of the European Affairs Sector, Ambassador Adel Atiya, the Minister's Office Director, Second Secretary Deen Abdul Rahim, and Second Secretary Issam Qadri.
Craxi affirmed her support for the Palestinian government and people, and her commitment to a two-state solution in accordance with international law, emphasizing that the Italian Senate is working with the government to push towards this solution and enhance efforts to assist the Palestinian people further.
For her part, Shahin expressed her gratitude to the Italian parliament for its supportive positions on the two-state solution, noting that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has become unbearable amid the continued killing of civilians daily, and the urgent need to act to stop the war immediately and allow humanitarian aid in.
She emphasized the importance of creating a political path based on international law that guarantees the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
Shahin highlighted the systematic policies of Israeli occupation aimed at fragmenting the West Bank, isolating Jerusalem through the expansion of settlements and their Judaization, in addition to the complete destruction of the Gaza Strip. She asserted that these policies require practical steps from the international community, foremost among them Italy's recognition of the State of Palestine, similar to its European partners.
Both parties agreed on the necessity of intensifying efforts to achieve the two-state solution.
In this context, Shahin also met with the Arab League Ambassador Enas Makawi, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Italy, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen Asmahan Al-Tawqi, and several Arab ambassadors as part of Arab coordination regarding the developments in Palestine and the region.
Ambassador Makawi welcomed the minister and her accompanying delegation, confirming the Arab League's daily monitoring of the Palestinian situation and its support for the Palestinian people.
She pointed to the importance of international media focusing on the Palestinian issue and the peace conference for the two-state solution under the auspices of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia despite the obstacles.
Dean of the Ambassadors, Asmahan Al-Tawqi, affirmed her country's full support for the Palestinian people and the necessity of unifying Arab positions to confront aggression, stressing the importance of ongoing cooperation among Arab countries to protect national rights and achieve a just and lasting peace.
For her part, Shahin emphasized that the Arab depth is the fundamental pillar for the Palestinian people, stressing the unity of the Arab position and rejecting displacement, while appreciating the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the efforts made to hold the peace conference planned to take place in New York at the end of this month.
She explained that Palestine is going through one of its most difficult phases, especially regarding the genocidal crimes, starvation, and displacement occurring in the Gaza Strip. She also warned against the annexation of lands, the Judaization of East Jerusalem, and incitement against Palestinians.
She affirmed that their steadfastness is the essence of resistance and outlined her diplomatic moves to enhance recognition of the State of Palestine and protect the two-state solution.
The attendees stressed the importance of coordinating Arab and international efforts to stop the war on Gaza, stabilize national rights, and work towards a just and lasting peace.
