
270 killed in earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan
SadaNews - The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook the southeastern region of Afghanistan on Sunday, while Afghan officials stated that the earthquake resulted in the deaths of at least 270 people and injured more than 500.
The center indicated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. Reuters reported that local officials expressed concerns about potential hundreds of fatalities due to the earthquake.
NBC quoted Taliban officials as saying that at least 250 people died in the earthquake that struck the eastern part of the country.
The spokesperson for the local health administration, Ajmal Darwish, mentioned that 9 people were killed and 25 others were injured in the Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan.
In October 2023, an earthquake hit the Herat province in western Afghanistan, and the Afghan government reported that at that time, it resulted in the deaths of at least 2400 people.
