Syrian Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli attack in Damascus countryside that resulted in the death of 6 soldiers
Sada News - The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned today, Wednesday, the attack carried out by Israeli occupation army drones near the city of Al-Kisweh in the Damascus countryside yesterday, Tuesday, stating that the assault resulted in the martyrdom of six Syrian army soldiers.
This came in reports from official media in Syria this afternoon, stating that forces belonging to the Israeli occupation army had infiltrated the Rasem Al-Rawadi area in the Quneitra countryside, southern Syria.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry considered, in a statement issued today, the third since the beginning of the week condemning the repeated Israeli aggressive attacks on its territory, that this "aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter."
It added that the Israeli attack "represents a breach of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity," and continued, "This assault comes in the context of the repeated aggressive policies pursued by the Israeli occupation aimed at undermining security and stability in the region."
Damascus emphasized that it is "committed to its legitimate right to defend its land and people in accordance with international law." The Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to "bear its legal and moral responsibilities in putting an end to these repeated assaults."
It demanded the international community to work on "obliging the Israeli occupation authorities to stop their ongoing violations against Syria, its people, and its national institutions."
Syrian state television reported on Wednesday morning that the death toll from the attack near Al-Kisweh had risen to six soldiers after a series of strikes carried out by Israeli drones targeting sites in the Damascus countryside.
The official "Al-Ikhbariya" channel stated that the raids led to the "martyrdom of six Syrian army soldiers," noting that they were carried out by drones belonging to the occupation army. Earlier, a Syrian defense ministry official had stated that three soldiers were killed in the Israeli strikes on the outskirts of the capital.
No official comment has been issued by the Israeli army regarding the strikes. The raids on Al-Kisweh came hours after the Syrian official news agency (SANA) announced the "martyrdom of a young man due to the Israeli occupation's shelling of a house in the village of Tarnajah in the northern Quneitra countryside."
It is noteworthy that Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on military sites in Syria over the past years. Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024 and the rise of the transitional authority headed by Ahmad Al-Shara, Israel has intensified its airstrikes, justifying this by attempting to prevent the military arsenal from falling into the hands of the new authorities.
It has also infiltrated into demilitarized areas in the Golan Heights and on the outskirts of southern Syria. President Ahmad Al-Shara had confirmed since taking office that "Syria does not wish to escalate with its neighbors," calling on the international community to "pressure Israel to stop its ongoing assaults against Syria."
