Europe Buys Russian Gas for $5.2 Billion in Half a Year
SadaNews - The European Union's statistics agency (Eurostat) revealed on Monday that the bloc imported liquefied natural gas from Russia worth about 4.48 billion euros ($5.2 billion) in the first half of 2025, up from 3.47 billion euros during the same period last year.
In total, the European Union imported liquefied natural gas worth approximately 26.9 billion euros during the first half of 2025.
The largest share came from the United States, valued at 13.7 billion euros.
For the entirety of 2024, imports of liquefied natural gas from the United States constituted about 45 percent of the bloc's imports, making it the largest supplier of liquefied natural gas to the European Union, according to the European Commission.
Unlike Russian coal and oil, the European Union has not yet imposed sanctions on gas due to the ongoing dependency of some member states on it.
Liquefied natural gas supplies and pipelines, including through TurkStream, continue to flow into the bloc.
