At least 8 deaths due to floods in Inner Mongolia, China
SadaNews - Flooding in Inner Mongolia, northern China, has resulted in the deaths of eight people and the disappearance of four others, according to the official Xinhua News Agency on Sunday.
Xinhua reported that a group of 13 people were camping outdoors in the Orat Rir Banner area of Inner Mongolia when the flood occurred around 10 PM on Saturday.
It added that "search and rescue operations for the missing are ongoing," noting that one person has been rescued so far.
Chinese state television CCTV also mentioned that the Ministry of Emergency Management has ordered full-scale rescue efforts and verification of the missing, dispatching a working team to the incident site.
Natural disasters are common in China, especially in the summer when some regions experience heavy rainfall while others face extreme heat.
According to official media, the death toll from floods and landslides in northwestern China in early August reached at least 13 people.
Additionally, heavy rains last month in Beijing resulted in the deaths of 44 people, with the rural suburbs of the capital being the most affected. Eight other people also died in a landslide in the nearby Hebei Province.
The central government announced last week the allocation of 430 million yuan (about 60 million USD) in new disaster relief funding, bringing the total funding dedicated to these efforts since April to at least 5.8 billion yuan (810 million USD).
