Egypt Recovers Artifacts from Britain and Germany
SadaNews - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptians Abroad has handed over a collection of Egyptian artifacts recovered from the United Kingdom and Germany to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The number of artifacts recovered from London is 10 pieces, dating back to various periods of ancient Egyptian civilization. The collection includes a funerary plate made of limestone from the New Kingdom, a small amulet, a part of a bronze crown, a funerary mask made of beads, and several funerary amulets made of black stone.
As for the artifacts recovered from Germany, there are 3 pieces: a skull, a hand from an ancient mummy, and an amulet that symbolizes life in ancient Egyptian civilization.
The artifacts from the United Kingdom were retrieved after being confiscated by British authorities, represented by the Metropolitan Police of London. This came after it was confirmed that they had been smuggled out of Egypt via an international network specializing in the trafficking of antiquities.
Regarding the artifacts recovered from Germany, the Egyptian embassy in Berlin received a notification from the authorities of Hamburg expressing their desire to return a number of artifacts preserved in the city's museum, after confirming they had been illegally taken from Egypt.
This comes within the framework of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recover the historical and artistic heritage whose legal exit from the country is disputed. This matter is subject to the Law on the Protection of Egyptian Antiquities and international agreements prohibiting the illegal import, export, and transfer of cultural properties.
