1. Blurred or Distorted Vision

Changes in vision are one of the first warning signs that may appear in patients during the early stages of eye cancer. Patients may experience blurriness and difficulty focusing, with objects appearing twisted or distorted.

Straight lines may seem wavy, and things become unclear to the eye. The condition will worsen over time, affecting one eye or both. Some individuals may experience a decrease in color vibrancy in their vision or shadows in their field of sight. Cancer causes these symptoms by damaging the eye's structure in its normal state.

2. Light Flashes or Floaters

Another symptom of eye cancer is the effect on vision from sudden light flashes, dark spots, and squiggly lines that appear as drifting shadows. Floaters are visual elements that may appear intermittently. The presence of floaters is caused by small clumps of cells or fluid in the eye, which typically indicates eye irritation or a tumor pressing on the retina.

3. Dark Spots

The appearance of dark spots on the iris or the white part of the eye indicates potential danger. These spots develop in various dimensions and shapes over time. These protrusions have a raised texture that may feel bumpy to the touch, while their color may darken or become uneven. Natural freckles differ from cancer spots as they grow quickly and exhibit irregular boundaries. Any new or enlarging spot requires careful monitoring due to its potential danger.

4. Change in Shape or Size of the Pupil

Both pupils should appear round and equal in size, functioning as the black centers of the eyes. When a pupil takes on an irregular or oval shape or fails to respond appropriately to light, it indicates a problem. A pupil may remain abnormally large or small for an extended period. Tumors affecting the pupil muscles can lead to an unnatural appearance of the pupil, with permanent dilation or constriction.

5. Loss of Peripheral Vision

Another sign is decreased ability to see things on the sides, unless the person moves their head. Loss of peripheral vision occurs because cancer damages either the retina or the optic nerve. This condition causes individuals to drop things more often and makes seeing in low light conditions more difficult. Gradual loss of peripheral vision occurs without pain, making it hard to diagnose until it progresses. Decreased overall field of vision increases the risk of accidents.

6. Swelling of One Eye

A tumor that develops behind or on the eye can manifest as swelling of one eye and the appearance of visible lumps on or around it. As the tumor progresses, it pushes the eyeball forward, initially as a subtle sign before it becomes more noticeable. The formation of lumps on the eyelids or the white parts of the eyes causes discomfort or irritation for the patient. Medical examination becomes essential when any lump does not heal or increases in size.

7. Persistent Red Eye

Pain can be one of the early stages of eye cancer, and unresponsive redness or irritation indicates a potential warning sign. Irritation can develop into a sensation of itching or burning that intensifies over time. Tumors cause inflammation, along with swelling of the blood vessels near the affected area, leading to redness. The tumor becomes painful when it extends beyond the eye's structure or when internal pressure rises.
