Trump: We have reached the largest trade agreement ever with the European Union
SadaNews - U.S. President, Donald Trump, announced today, Sunday, that a new agreement has been reached with the European Union imposing a 15% U.S. tariff, describing it as "the largest agreement ever."
Trump made this statement following a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in Scotland: "We have reached an agreement with the European Union, and this agreement will bring stability," pointing out that the EU will begin purchasing U.S. military equipment as part of the agreement.
Trump mentioned that the agreement includes the EU purchasing $750 billion worth of U.S. energy.
He indicated that all EU member states' markets would be opened to U.S. products, in return, the bloc would gain $600 billion in U.S. investments.
Meanwhile, the President of the European Commission praised the agreement, describing it as "good" and stable, saying: "We wanted to rebalance trade relations with America."
She stated that the agreement with the United States was based on imposing a 15% tariff across the board.
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick announced on Sunday that the deadline set by the United States on August 1 to impose stricter tariffs on its trade partners is final and will not be extended.
Lutnick told "Fox News": "There are no extensions or grace periods. The tariffs are set for August 1. They will be applied. Customs will start collecting money."
U.S. President Donald Trump had set a 90-day deadline for trade talks between the EU and the United States in early April, which was scheduled to conclude on July 9.
