Report: Israel agrees to begin pumping funds for the reconstruction of Gaza during the truce
SadaNews - The newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth" revealed today, Thursday, that Israel has given initial approval, as part of negotiations for a ceasefire deal and prisoner exchange, to allow Qatar and other countries to begin pumping funds and resources for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip during the anticipated truce period, even before reaching a final agreement on a permanent ceasefire.
Hamas demands that this item be included as part of what it considers "guarantees" that demonstrate seriousness in seeking to end the war, while Israel stresses that Qatar should not be the sole entity responsible for funding, calling for the participation of other countries in the process, according to the report.
This item was a key point in the discussions held by the Qatari delegation in Washington, coinciding with the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while regional countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, refuse to commit to reconstruction without a clear Israeli pledge to end the war.
In terms of security details, disputes continue over the "Morag" axis between Rafah and Khan Yunis; Hamas is demanding a complete withdrawal, while Israel has presented a new map allowing for partial retention, which Israeli sources considered a sign of negotiable flexibility.
While Palestinian sources announced the continued stalemate in negotiations, estimates indicated that the gap narrowed on Tuesday evening after Israel presented a new proposal to the Qatari mediator regarding the deployment of its forces, especially in the buffer zones between Rafah and the rest of the strip.
Reuters reported this morning that an Israeli official said that a ceasefire could be reached within two weeks, pointing to a preliminary agreement on a truce lasting 60 days, during which Israel seeks to establish a permanent ceasefire that includes disarming Hamas, warning of a resumption of military operations in case of rejection.
It is noteworthy that Netanyahu had previously announced that the occupation forces had taken control of the "Morag" axis, which he referred to as "Philadelphi 2", warning of converting areas south of this axis into a closed humanitarian zone on the ruins of Rafah, and Israel insists on maintaining control over it in any final agreement for security purposes and the inspection of returning residents, through the establishment of barriers under the supervision of the Israeli army.
