Issuance of a Decision to Freeze the Demolition of 104 Buildings in Tulkarm Camp

SadaNews: The Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision to temporarily freeze demolition orders and to prevent their implementation until further notice. The court has also given the state until September 2, 2025, to provide a detailed response to the petition.

Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kmail stated to the official agency on Thursday that this decision came after a legal petition submitted by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the Adalah Center, in direct coordination with the governor, to the Israeli Supreme Court, which accepted the petition and unexpectedly decided to freeze the implementation of the decision, requiring the Israeli military prosecution to provide its response and statements by September 2, 2025.

He clarified that the decision does not mean the cancellation of the demolition permanently, but rather a freeze, emphasizing that during the specified period, comprehensive legal files will be prepared to push for the cancellation of the demolition decision, and all experienced legal professionals will be mobilized to appear before the Supreme Court in opposition to the prosecution, seeking to issue a final decision that completely halts the demolition process.

Kmail stated: "I would like to thank UNRWA and the Adalah Center for their significant role in striving to achieve a complete halt to the decision and stop this catastrophe."

Adalah Center clarified in a statement published on its website: "The army repeats vague justifications and ignores clear and executable alternatives instead of practicing collective home destruction. The army again claims that there is a need for additional space for military movement—this claim clearly contradicts the geographical reality of the area and Israel's commitments under international law."

The occupying forces continue their aggression against the city of Tulkarm and the Nur Shams and Tulkarm camps for the 158th consecutive day, resulting in the martyrdom of 13 citizens, including a child and two women, one of whom was in her eighth month of pregnancy, in addition to dozens of injuries and arrests. Extensive destruction affected the infrastructure, leading to the forcible displacement of more than 5,000 families from the camps, amounting to over 25,000 citizens, and the complete destruction of more than 600 homes, while 2,573 homes were partially damaged, amid the continued closure of the entrances to the camps with barriers, turning them into nearly lifeless areas.

Last Monday, the occupying forces notified the demolition of 104 homes and buildings in Tulkarm Camp, giving a 72-hour period for objection while allowing the owners to evacuate.
