Report: Secret Communications Between Israel and Russia Regarding Iran and Syria
SadaNews - Israel is conducting high-level secret diplomatic dialogue with Russia, focused on the Iranian file and the situation in Syria, according to reports from the Israeli public broadcasting authority ("Kan 11") on Wednesday evening, amidst a ceasefire that took effect last week.
The channel reported that the dialogue began about a week after the ceasefire with Iran, following Moscow's offer to act as a mediator. It mentioned that Israel is maintaining communication channels with the Russian side as part of efforts to reach a diplomatic solution concerning Iran and Syria.
"Kan 11" noted that Russia has not supplied Tehran with weapons during the war period.
In parallel, Israel is seeking to formulate understandings with the United States regarding the Iranian file, similar to those that led to a ceasefire in Lebanon, which would provide Israel with American support for any future attacks on Iran, under the pretext of disrupting its nuclear program, the report stated.
This issue is set to be raised during the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington next week; the channel stressed that the framework Israel is aiming for is similar to the ceasefire arrangement in Lebanon.
Israel hopes to formulate "basic outlines" in common with the Trump administration regarding the Iranian nuclear issue, amid repeated threats from Washington that the United States may resume attacks against Iran if it resumes efforts to enhance its nuclear capabilities.
Meanwhile, Iran officially announced today the suspension of its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). State media reported that Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian signed a decree ratifying the decision to suspend relations with the agency.
Despite this decision, the U.S. Associated Press reported from a diplomatic source (unnamed) that inspectors from the agency are still inside Iran and have not yet received any instructions from the Iranian authorities to leave the country.
