Prime Minister Discusses with the General Union of Palestinian Industries Ways to Enhance the Industrial Sector and Strengthen its Contribution to the National Economy
SadaNews - Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa met with the General Union of Palestinian Industries, headed by Nassar Nassar, today (Monday) in his office in Ramallah, along with a video conference with union representatives in the Gaza Strip, in the presence of Minister of Industry Arafat Asfour and Minister of National Economy Mohammad Al-Amour, to discuss ways to enhance the industrial sector and increase its contribution to the national economy, in addition to various issues of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister confirmed the provision of all forms of support and empowerment for the Palestinian industrial sector, contributing to supporting the national product, increasing its size and competitiveness, reducing reliance on imports, and increasing job opportunities and creating additional jobs.
The Prime Minister heard from the delegation about the main challenges and obstacles facing the industrial sector, primarily the obstacles of occupation and the complexities at the crossings, especially with the Gaza Strip.
The meeting discussed following up on the ongoing legal procedures to pressure the occupation to open the crossings around the clock for exports via Jordan and the obstacles to the entry of goods from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip.
The meeting also discussed the General Union of Palestinian Industries' proposal to establish a national industrial company in the Gaza Strip, which would contribute to enhancing local production of reconstruction materials and recycling rubble, as well as producing locally made mobile homes.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed government procedures to support the industrial sector and laws and regulations, especially the mandatory inclusion of the national product in government tenders, mechanisms to combat market flooding with low-quality goods, along with laws currently being worked on, including the new draft Consumer Protection Law and the amended Investment Law, in addition to completing efforts to expand international recognition of quality certificates for Palestinian products and enhance export processes.
