The Chinese Party System: A Political Innovation Leading to Renaissance and Making a Difference
While Western systems face challenges of party conflict, political chaos, and the influence of lobbying and capital in their policies and decisions, China has innovated a new party system that ensures strong central leadership while allowing other parties to participate in consultation and oversight to achieve internal stability and place the people at the heart of decision-making.
Despite promoting a model of party pluralism, the experience of the United States reveals that the exchange of parties in power is merely a facade, as this process does not change the essence of the policies, which remain entirely subject to capital, lobbying, and major corporations, a situation that can be referred to as "one-lobby rule." The American citizen may change their vote from one party to another, yet they remain far removed from the actual decision-making circle, as the interests of major economic powers dictate the course of politics more than the interests of the people.
As for China, the new party system combines the leadership of the Communist Party of China with the cooperation of other democratic parties, creating a unique model of "plurality within unity." This system is not based on party conflict or power-sharing but on consultation and participation in governance and democratic oversight, where all political forces converge on one goal: serving the people and achieving sustainable development.
Experience has proven that this political formula is not mere slogans but a tangible reality. Over the past two decades, China has achieved an average annual growth rate exceeding 5.8%, compared to 2.5% in the United States. Additionally, the GDP rose from less than $2.3 trillion in 2005 to about $14.9 trillion in 2020, and it is poised to surpass the United States economically before 2030. More importantly, this growth has directly impacted the lives of the people, as China has lifted over 900 million people out of poverty in the largest poverty reduction campaign in modern history.
What distinguishes the new party system in China is its combination of political stability, openness, and pluralism. The Communist Party of China does not isolate itself but listens to other parties and independents and accepts democratic oversight. This participation prevents the sharp divisions that afflict Western systems and also averts the absolute despotism characteristic of some single-party systems in the world. It is a successful middle ground that achieves a balance between political efficiency and public accountability.
The superiority of this system is not limited to the domestic sphere but is also reflected in its foreign policy, which relies on values and moral principles and respects international and humanitarian law. While the United States is associated with violating international law and double standards through military interventions and supporting coups and wars (from Vietnam to Iraq, Libya, and Syria, as well as supporting Israel in its genocidal war against the Palestinians), China has chosen a different path: no colonialism, no occupation, and no coercion, but has supported national liberation movements and upheld the right to self-determination for peoples while launching developmental initiatives such as the "Belt and Road" that are based on cooperation, mutual interests, mutual benefit, and the shared future of humanity, not on exploitation and political impositions.
Thus, the fundamental difference between the two models emerges:
• In the United States, democracy is used as a tool to perpetuate the interests of capital and enhance dominance while exploiting peoples and supporting colonial policies.
• In China, the new party system is a means to achieve comprehensive national rejuvenation and place the people at the core of the development process while respecting human rights and the rights of other peoples.
China has proven that pluralism does not mean chaos and that stability does not mean stagnation. Instead, the combination of central leadership and organized political diversity can be the key to a historic renaissance. It is a model that prioritizes justice and development over dominance and exploitation, providing the world with a new option alternative to the chaos of Western pluralism or the stagnation of conventional single-party rule.
Today, China does not present its system as a global standard but indeed demonstrates that every country has its own path, and the new party system can be a source of inspiration for countries seeking stability, development, and national dignity. It is a system that has created an economic and social miracle while simultaneously shaping a more just and humane foreign policy, placing China in a position of superiority on the international stage.
