Global Newspapers: Sewage Crisis on American Aircraft Carrier and Its Sailors Want to Resign
SadaNews - A report in the Wall Street Journal revealed a growing sense of frustration and exhaustion among the sailors of the aircraft carrier "USS Gerald Ford," following the extension of its mission for the second time, nearing the record for the longest continuous deployment in the history of the U.S. Navy.
Sailors reported recurring malfunctions in the sewage system on the carrier, which adds to the difficulties of daily life on board, especially under the pressures of preparations for a potential confrontation with Iran.
The Wall Street Journal's report quoted sailors and their families sharing stories of missing relatives' funerals, the birth of their children, and canceled leave, with one sailor stating that not knowing when they will return is the hardest part, and many are considering resigning as soon as they come back.
Crucial Role
In light of the tensions between Washington and Tehran, the New York Times published warnings about the risks of Washington comparing the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to a potential conflict with Iran.
The paper quoted experts stating that geography plays a crucial role; while Caracas is only 10 miles from the sea, Tehran is 400 miles inland, "which makes reaching ideologically entrenched leadership protected by 150,000 Revolutionary Guards extremely difficult."
Furthermore, Iran's threats to close the Strait of Hormuz represent a nightmare that could lead to a skyrocketing increase in oil prices, a message Tehran conveyed through its recent naval defense missile exercises in the strait, according to the paper.
Harsh Conditions
The British newspaper The Guardian highlighted the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, with writer Majdoleen Abi Aasi, a resident of the strip, stating that Ramadan came upon the residents in extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.
Israeli newspapers discussed statements made by the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, where Gideon Levy in Haaretz noted that he does not represent Israel alone, nor its extremists, but "he may represent a version of America in the making."
Levy described Huckabee's remarks about "Israel's divine right" to control the Middle East as surpassing everything that has been said by the most extreme Israeli figures.
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, the American diplomat stated that it would be "acceptable" for Israel to seize all the lands of the Middle East, relying on biblical interpretations circulating within the Christian nationalist stream in the United States.
