Injury of prisoner Marwan Barghouti by rubber bullet in his leg

SadaNews - Lawyer Fadwa Barghouti stated on Monday that her husband, prisoner Marwan Barghouti, was subjected to a new assault by the Israeli occupation.

Barghouti pointed out in a post on her Facebook that one of the Israeli guards shot a rubber bullet at Marwan's leg, causing him to bleed and suffer a painful injury, in a new episode of ongoing assaults against him.

She indicated that this comes concurrently with the "Israeli Prison Service" issuing a provocative report that coincides with the widening international campaign "Freedom for Marwan, Freedom for Palestine" and the joining of global figures and leaders to it, as well as the significant official and popular response to it worldwide.

She said: However, what the occupation has not realized for a quarter-century, and still does not understand today, is that Marwan has never wavered from his conviction that freedom is a right and that the occupation is doomed to end. He rejected surrender just as he rejected nihilism and believed that resisting the occupation and striving for a just peace to end it are a national and moral responsibility. He believes in the unity of the people and the land. Marwan's concern has always been and remains to spare every Palestinian child the pains of occupation and the horrors of wars, and his goal has always been and remains a free and dignified life for his people.

She added: Even the Israeli report acknowledges, in a context aimed at condemnation, the extent of Marwan's status, influence, and symbolism, as well as the global campaign calling for his freedom. As for the incitement and assault, they will not change this truth, nor will they detach Marwan from the consciousness of his people or from the conscience of the free people of the world, nor will they take away from Marwan his love for the homeland, his love for the people, and his care for them.

She continued: Marwan is one of his people, sharing their pain and hopes, haunted by the sufferings of Gaza, the wounds of Jenin, the anguish of Jerusalem, and the pain of every city, village, and camp, and every Palestinian home. He will remain faithful to the pledge he made: to defend his people and their freedom and dignity, no matter the cost. Marwan is one of you, in you, and for you.
