Nuclear Spending Rises.. Which Country Leads the Scene?
SadaNews - A report issued by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons on Tuesday indicated that spending on nuclear weapons by the nine nuclear-armed states in the world has increased by nearly one-fifth in 2025 to $119 billion.
This increase of 19 percent compared to 2024 marks the highest level of spending on nuclear weapons since the campaign began tracking annual spending on nuclear arms by the United States, Russia, China, France, the UK, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel in 2020.
The United States spent $69.2 billion, which is more than all other nuclear states combined, and witnessed the largest increase at 22 percent.
The campaign states that the United States is increasing its military spending overall in addition to enhancing its nuclear arsenal.
China ranked second with an increase of seven percent to $13.5 billion, while the UK surpassed Russia to take third place in terms of spending, with a 17 percent increase to $12.6 billion. Russia spent $9.5 billion, marking a 6 percent increase.
The campaign, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017, aims for the complete abolition of nuclear weapons.
