The Death Toll from the Earthquakes in Venezuela Exceeds 5,000
SadaNews - The death toll from the two earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has surpassed five thousand, according to an announcement by the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, in a post on the "Telegram" app yesterday, Friday.
The earthquakes, which had magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, hit the country less than a minute apart on June 24, causing significant devastation in the coastal state of La Guaira, located north of Caracas.
Rodriguez stated that the disaster has claimed the lives of 5,069 people, noting that most of the victims were in the coastal area.
At least 20,857 disaster victims are living in overcrowded camps, most of which lack water supplies and effective sanitation systems.
