Liverpool Sacks Coach Slot... Iraola is the Leading Candidate to Succeed Him

SadaNews - Liverpool FC officially sacked its Dutch coach Arne Slot today (Saturday), with Spanish coach Andoni Iraola being the most prominent candidate to succeed him in leading the team.

According to the British newspaper "The Telegraph," Iraola, the former Bournemouth coach, tops the list of candidates for the position, with club owners from "Fenway Sports Group" expected to hold talks with three coaches over the coming days.

Sources close to the club see Iraola as the strongest and most convincing option, although the ownership group will follow their official procedures before making a final decision. The shortlist also includes both Sebastian Hoeness, the 44-year-old Stuttgart coach, and Pierre Sag, the 47-year-old coach of French club Lens.

Slot took over coaching Liverpool two years ago, succeeding German Jurgen Klopp in 2025.

The Dutch coach achieved significant success in his first season by leading the team to win the Premier League title, but his second season fell well below expectations.

Despite Liverpool spending around £450 million last summer to sign notable names such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike, the team struggled to find the required cohesion, finishing the season in fifth place, 24 points lower than the previous season's tally.

Slot also faced increasing criticism over the team's style of play, while frustration among Anfield fans grew as the season progressed, contributing to the acceleration of his departure from the club.
