U.S. Army Denies Iran's Claims of Downing an American Drone

SadaNews - The U.S. Army denied Iranian reports claiming that an American drone was shot down over the Gulf.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on X platform that the reports are false, adding that no American drone has been downed and that all U.S. aircraft have been fully accounted for.

Earlier, the Tasnim news agency, which is close to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, reported, citing a military source, that a missile shot down an American drone near the coastal city of Bushehr in southern Iran.

The Iranian Fars news agency reported earlier on Friday that air defenses stationed in Bushehr province fired at an object over the Gulf.

According to Iranian reports, the U.S. military struck an area at the airport in Bandar Abbas, located at the Strait of Hormuz, early on Thursday. Prior to that, it was reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard forced two ships in the strait to turn back with warning shots, prompting the U.S. strike.

The U.S. military said that the strike near Bandar Abbas targeted a control center used to operate drones that threatened American and commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier this week, the U.S. and Iran had already exchanged gunfire in the strait despite a ceasefire and ongoing negotiations to end the conflict.
