60-Day US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding Awaiting Trump's Approval

SadaNews - American officials revealed to Axios that Washington and Tehran have reached a preliminary agreement on a 60-day memorandum of understanding, aimed at extending the current ceasefire and opening the door for expanded negotiations that include the Iranian nuclear file.

According to leaks, the draft agreement - most of whose provisions have been completed - requires Trump's final approval, and is based on the equation "maritime security in exchange for economic and humanitarian facilitation."

The memorandum includes key provisions that encompass a complete commitment to ensuring that movement through the Strait of Hormuz is unrestricted, without any fees or harassment for international trade shipments, and will include a mechanism to assist Iran in receiving goods and humanitarian aid.

In return, Washington will commit to discussing the easing of sanctions and the release of Iran's frozen assets within the negotiations, and Tehran commits to not seeking to possess nuclear weapons.

According to what Axios reported from American officials, the memorandum of understanding will stipulate that Iran will commit to removing all mines from the strait within 30 days.
