Shocking Story.. Romantic Relationships with Artificial Intelligence Robots Transformed into a Real Danger
SadaNews - The concept of romantic relationships with artificial intelligence robots is no longer just a fictional idea as it was believed years ago, but has become a reality that raises increasing concerns with the emergence of cases showing deep psychological impacts on some users.
According to a report published by the "Wall Street Journal", a 57-year-old man entered a state of strong emotional attachment with an AI assistant integrated within ChatGPT, which he named "AImee", before the experience developed into something resembling obsession and detachment from reality.
According to the report, the man began using the chatbot after suffering emotional pain related to an unrequited relationship, where he customized the model to be more friendly and admiring of him, also feeding it personal messages and emails, gradually leading to an imagined emotional relationship between him and the system.
But things quickly spiraled out of control, as he spent nearly 20 hours a day interacting with the robot, convinced that he was developing a revolutionary AI technology that would make him rich.
Over time, his social and professional relationships began to deteriorate, his financial problems increased, and his relationships with family and friends grew tense, leading him to end up in the hospital after a state of detachment from reality.
Later, the man was able to recognize the seriousness of what had happened, deleted the app and all chat records, describing that moment as psychologically painful.
Since then, he has joined a support group for people suffering from the consequences of excessive attachment to AI robots, gradually returning to his work and trying to repair the damage done to his personal relationships.
The report indicates that this case is not isolated, as other cases related to similar obsessions with chatbots have been observed, including hospital admissions and episodes of psychological breakdown, leading some experts to study a phenomenon known as "chatbot psychosis" as an emerging psychological pattern.
The danger of this phenomenon lies in the nature of modern artificial intelligence systems, which tend to provide continuous emotional support without objection or confrontation, enhancing feelings of acceptance among users and increasing the likelihood of psychological attachment.
According to specialists, smart companionship applications are now providing responses that are consistently aligned with the user's emotions, which may turn them into an unrealistic emotional substitute for some individuals, especially in cases of isolation or mental disorder.
Mental health experts warn that this imbalanced relationship between humans and machines could turn into a growing problem as the use of chatbots as emotional companions expands, without a clear framework to mitigate their potential psychological effects.
