The conference members voted unanimously to elect President Mahmoud Abbas as the president and general leader of the movement, as all members agreed on the importance of the role the president plays in leading this crucial phase of our people's history and their complete trust in his leadership.

President Mahmoud Abbas is considered the elected president of the State of Palestine and the chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, as well as one of the early founders of the Fatah movement alongside his fellow founders. He has led the Palestinian National Authority under the most difficult circumstances and continues to bear this significant responsibility.
