Khoury Discusses the Situation of Churches and the Challenges Facing Christian Presence in Palestine

SadaNews - Ramzi Khoury, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and head of the High Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, discussed the situation of churches and the challenges facing the Christian presence in Palestine during a meeting with a delegation of Orthodox priests from the Ramallah district, in the presence of the new mayor of Ramallah, Jack Saadeh. This discussion came in light of the ongoing escalation and violations faced by the Palestinian territories.

During the meeting, Khoury emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between churches and national institutions, and addressing several issues of mutual interest, which contribute to supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people and preserving the authentic Christian presence in Palestine.

He reaffirmed the national and historical role of churches in serving the Palestinian community and defending national rights, stressing the importance of a unified national stance in the face of current challenges, and the necessity of collaborative efforts to protect the Palestinian Christian presence and its sanctities.

The new mayor of Ramallah congratulated him on assuming his duties, wishing him success in serving the city of Ramallah and enhancing the municipal and national work that serves the Palestinian people.

For his part, the head of the Church of the Transfiguration for the Greek Orthodox, Father Elias Awad, thanked the committee, represented by Khoury, for its continuous efforts and support for churches and Christians, appreciating the role that the committee plays in addressing church issues and bolstering the Christian presence in Palestine.
