Fatah Begins Its Eighth General Conference Tomorrow
SadaNews - The eighth general conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement "Fatah" will kick off tomorrow, Thursday, at Ahmad Shuqeiri Hall at the Presidential Headquarters in Ramallah, concurrently with sessions held in the Gaza Strip, Cairo, and Beirut.
Approximately 2580 members will participate in the conference, with around 1600 members in Ramallah, 400 members in the Gaza Strip, 400 members in Cairo, and 200 members in Beirut.
According to the internal regulations of the movement, conference members will elect 80 members to the Revolutionary Council and 18 members to the Central Committee, while the conference has the authority to modify these numbers, either by increasing or decreasing, if a decision is made to do so.
The conference will last for three days, from Thursday to Saturday, with the opening session including a speech by President Mahmoud Abbas, alongside speeches from Palestinian national factions and representatives of Palestinians from 1948, before moving on to internal sessions to ensure the legal quorum is met and to elect the conference presidency.
The evening session will also witness the election of the electoral committee and the formation of various conference committees, which will immediately begin their meetings to follow the agenda and organizational tasks of the conference.
The second day will be dedicated to discussing reports from various commissions and committees, alongside the opening of nomination for the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council elections, from 10 AM to 1 PM, after which the preliminary and then final lists of candidates will be announced.
As for the third day, the voting process will start from 8 AM until 3 PM, followed directly by sorting operations and announcing the results, culminating in the issuance of the conference's final statement.
The "Fatah" movement held its first conference in 1964 in the Syrian capital, Damascus, while the second conference was held in 1968 in the Zabadani area near Damascus, the third in 1971 in Damascus, the fourth in 1980 also in Damascus, and the fifth in 1988 in the Tunisian capital, Tunis.
The eighth general conference of the "Fatah" movement is considered the third conference to be held inside the homeland, following the sixth conference held in 2009 in Bethlehem and the seventh conference held in 2016 in Ramallah.
