Netherlands Ends Evacuation of Passengers from the "Hondius" Ship After Hanta Virus Outbreak

SadaNews - The last two evacuation flights carrying passengers and crew from the cruise ship "MV Hondius", where an outbreak of the "Hanta" virus was detected, landed in the Netherlands late Monday night.

The two flights evacuated 28 individuals from the ship, according to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including passengers, medical crew, and ship crew members.

The first plane landed in Eindhoven, Netherlands, carrying six passengers from the "Hondius", four from Australia, one from New Zealand, and a British person residing in Australia.

The six passengers are expected to remain in a quarantine facility near the airport before being returned to Australia.

The second plane carried 19 crew members, a British doctor, and two epidemiologists (one from the World Health Organization and the other from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control).

The "Hondius" is currently sailing from Tenerife to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where it will dock for disinfection.

Oceanwide Expeditions, the operator of the ship, reported that "25 crew members and two medical staff remain on board".

There is also a deceased German passenger on board who died during the trip.
