Martyrdom of a Prisoner from Salfit Inside Occupation Prisons

SadaNews - The Palestinian Prisoners and Released Prisoners Affairs Commission, along with the Palestinian Prisoners Club, announced the martyrdom of young man Qusay Ibrahim Ali Rayan (29 years old) from the town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, at the Israeli Beilinson Hospital, due to severe wounds he sustained as a result of being shot before being later arrested by the Israeli occupation army on April 15, 2026, with data indicating that Rayan, a father to a girl, was shot by colonists.

Both the commission and the club stated in a joint statement that the occupation claimed at the beginning of Rayan's arrest that he had attempted to carry out a stabbing operation, leading to his detention being extended for eight days. At that time, the lawyer demanded complete clarifications regarding his health condition, which appeared critical, after he was shown via video conference due to repeated requests from the lawyer to see him, especially after being informed that he was unconscious and on artificial respiration.

In the following session, the court informed the lawyer representing the commission that there was no new request to extend his detention and that a decision had been made for his release; however, his critical health condition warranted his continued stay in the hospital. The lawyer following his case confirmed that, in light of attempts to understand the circumstances of his arrest and his health condition, after contacting the hospital, it became evident that the so-called social worker supposed to communicate with his family was unaware of Rayan's situation.

The Prisoners Commission and the Prisoners Club affirmed that the allegations made by the occupation prosecutor at the beginning of his arrest, claiming his intention to carry out a stabbing operation, are false and untrue, especially since the occupation prosecutor, in similar cases, insisted on continuing the detention, which means that Rayan was killed in cold blood based on fabricated allegations.

The institutions added that this crime occurs within the context of the ongoing crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people following the crime of genocide, in various Palestinian geographies, including ongoing field executions that have not ceased, but rather have escalated in the West Bank, amid the practices of colonists who have become a central tool in killing Palestinians, alongside the Israeli occupation forces that provide them with full cover.

The institutions pointed out that there are hundreds of wounded detainees whose numbers have increased following the genocide, as the occupation continues to arrest and detain them under harsh and tragic conditions, and they are subjected, like other prisoners, to systematic crimes that represent another form of genocide.

The commission and the club held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of Qusay Rayan, and they renewed their calls to international human rights organizations to halt the state of impunity and put an end to the ongoing complicity regarding the ongoing exterminatory approach against the Palestinian people, including executions and field killings that have transformed into a daily practice, along with urgent intervention to stop the crimes committed against prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
