Trump Comments on Iran's Response to Washington's Proposal to End the War

SadaNews - President Donald Trump rejected the response provided by Iran through the Pakistani intermediary regarding Washington's proposal to end the war in the Middle East.

This came on a day when the United States and Israel, who launched the war on February 28, reminded that military options remain on the table, despite the ceasefire that has been in effect for nearly a month.

Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform: "I just read the response from those who call themselves 'representatives' of Iran. I did not like it, it is totally unacceptable."

This came just hours after the official Iranian news agency IRNA confirmed that the response was sent on Sunday, while the ISNA agency reported that it centered around "ending the war and maritime security in the Arabian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz."

While both agencies did not provide details about the response, the Wall Street Journal reported that it "does not address U.S. demands for preconditions regarding the fate of Iran's nuclear program and its stockpile of enriched uranium," and that Tehran proposed to reduce the enrichment level of some quantities and transfer the remaining to a third country.

The response also included a proposal to suspend uranium enrichment to below 20 years.

According to the newspaper, Tehran also focused on "ending the fighting and gradually reopening the Strait of Hormuz, along with the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Iranian ports and ships."

The semi-official Iranian agency Tasnim reported on Sunday, citing an informed source, that the Iranian response to the U.S. proposal emphasizes the necessity of ending the war on all fronts and lifting the sanctions imposed on Tehran.

The agency added that the proposal also calls for the cancellation of sanctions imposed by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control on Iranian oil sales within 30 days, and ending the maritime blockade imposed on Iran.

According to the source, the Iranian proposal stipulates the immediate cessation of the war and guarantees against resuming attacks on Iran.

The source indicated that the Iranian proposal also stresses the need to end the war on all fronts.

The agency quoted the source stating that Tehran's demands include "an Iranian management of the Strait of Hormuz if the United States commits to certain obligations," without specifying what those obligations are.

The situation in the Gulf waters and the Strait of Hormuz is a major point of contention between the United States and Iran, as it impacts maritime shipping and global energy resource prices.

Iran controls this vital corridor for transporting oil, gas, and fertilizers, and has established a payment mechanism to impose fees on ships attempting to pass through it, while Washington responded by blockading Iranian ports.
