A Fabricated Video of a Syrian Tank Raises Concerns Over the Arming of the Syrian Army and Worries Israel

SadaNews - A video has gone viral on social media platforms, revealing that the Syrian army has succeeded in producing its "first fully indigenous tank".

The video shows a convoy of modern tanks with a sophisticated design, bearing the Syrian flag and moving in a rural area, prompting some users to consider it evidence of a qualitative leap in the country’s military capabilities.

However, verification of the video revealed a completely different picture, as visual analysis showed technical indicators inconsistent with reality, the most notable being the absence of any physical interaction between the tanks and the ground, with no tracks or dust particles rising despite the supposed movement of heavy machinery.

There were also errors in the details of the Syrian flag, in addition to unintelligible engravings and writings on the hulls, which are features typically associated with content generated using artificial intelligence technologies.

These indicators collectively suggest that the video does not document a real event, but has been digitally generated as part of an inflated narrative related to the development of Syrian military industries, without any realistic evidence to support it.

Away from the circulating claims, field data indicate that the development of the Syrian army is progressing along a gradual path based on restructuring and rehabilitation, rather than relying on locally manufactured advanced military systems.

In this context, units of the Syrian army participated in the "Evis 2026" maneuvers organized by Turkey, alongside forces from other countries, including live artillery and mortar firing operations, reflecting a shift towards enhancing combat readiness through cooperation and joint training.

Movements within the Syrian Ministry of Defense also indicate institutional activity focusing on developing the organizational structure, through meetings with arms procurement and recruitment departments, reviewing workflows, and discussing future modernization plans.

Additionally, there are indicators of military and diplomatic openness, through meetings with European officials and communications with the Turkish side, addressing security and defense cooperation issues.

These steps reflect a trend towards rebuilding the military institution on organizational and training foundations, amid complex internal and regional challenges, distancing from the proposals that discuss independent manufacturing of advanced combat systems.

Increasing Israeli Concern Over Syrian Army Development

The newspaper "Ma'ariv" warned of the rise of what it described as a "new threat" coming from Syria, under the leadership of President Ahmad al-Sharaa.

The newspaper confirmed that there is growing anxiety within Israel regarding the speeding up of the rebuilding of the Syrian army, at a pace exceeding previous estimates.

According to the report, al-Sharaa is focusing on rehabilitating the air force, and building heavy fire systems that include armored vehicles, artillery, and missiles, with direct support from Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Israeli newspaper adds, "Syria is classified in Israeli security doctrine as an enemy state, in light of the absence of any peace agreement or mutual recognition between the two parties".

Israel also expresses concern over the potential extension of this influence towards the Lebanese arena, in case of intersections with internal balances there.

In contrast, the Israeli army is enhancing its defensive presence on the border with Syria and confirms that it is closely monitoring developments, while being prepared to deal with any potential scenario.
