Trump announces a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon starting tonight

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday evening that an agreement has been reached for a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

The ceasefire will take effect at midnight on Thursday, according to the time in Israel and Lebanon, and will last for 10 days.

Trump stated in a tweet, "I had an excellent conversation with both Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and they agreed to achieve peace between the two countries.

He noted that he has directed his Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to work with Israel and Lebanon to ensure the sustainability of peace.

Meanwhile, Channel 12 reported that the discussion among cabinet ministers was interrupted after they expressed anger at hearing Trump's ceasefire decision through the media before they returned to the call again.

Netanyahu had earlier called for a phone meeting to inform the ministers about the ceasefire decision.

One reporter from Reshet Kan remarked: What a guardianship... Trump decides on a ceasefire and Netanyahu has not yet informed the cabinet ministers about what is happening and has not made a decision regarding the ceasefire... It was expected that Trump would impose the decision, but not in this manner.

Israeli opposition leaders criticized the announcement of the ceasefire, considering it a betrayal of the residents of northern Israel.

Meanwhile, Lebanese parliament member from Hezbollah, Hassan Fadlallah, told Reuters that the Iranian ambassador has informed us that the ceasefire will begin tonight.
