Trump's Deadline Approaches.. Disputes with Iran and Possible Military Strikes on Tuesday Evening
SadaNews - The Wall Street Journal reported, citing American officials, that the gap between Washington and Tehran's positions cannot be narrowed before the deadline set by President Trump, which is (this evening, Tuesday).
The newspaper clarified that the American president has become less optimistic in his private conversations about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Iran, noting that he may order military strikes on Tuesday evening, although ongoing negotiations could change this course.
Furthermore, the newspaper added that Republicans are concerned about the possibility of rising gasoline prices and the effect this could have on the midterm elections scheduled for November, while Trump is trying to balance his desire to end the war with Iran against Americans' aversion to long-term military operations.
In this context, the newspaper quoted White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt saying that "only President Trump knows what he will do," adding that the world will know on Tuesday whether bridges and power stations in Iran will be destroyed.
For its part, Axios reported from an American official that Trump is the final decision-maker regarding the start of destroying Iranian infrastructure at 8 PM Tuesday, but he may postpone the attack if he senses real signs of a looming agreement.
