Trump Sees a "Good Opportunity" for an Agreement with Iran: We Sent Weapons to Iranian Protesters
SadaNews - US President Donald Trump expressed on Sunday that there is a "good opportunity" to reach an agreement with Iran on Monday, shortly after renewing his threat to bomb its infrastructure if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
Trump stated in an interview with "Fox News": "I believe we can reach an agreement with Iran by tomorrow, they are negotiating now."
He added, "If they do not quickly come to an agreement, I am seriously considering destroying everything and seizing the oil."
Trump said, "We sent weapons to the Iranian protesters earlier this year, via the Kurds, but the Kurds kept them."
He mentioned that it is "better to take Iranian oil if Tehran is not willing to make a deal."
He continued: "We currently granted amnesty to those negotiating on behalf of Iran, so they can continue talks."
Trump reiterated his threats to continue targeting infrastructure in Iran, saying: "You will see bridges and power plants collapsing across Iran."
Earlier on Sunday, Trump indicated in a post on his platform "Truth Social" that April 7 will be a "day of power plants and bridges" in Iran.
He warned: "Open the strait (Hormuz) or you will live in hell."
Iran Threatens to Close the "Bab al-Mandab" Strait Following Threats
For its part, Iran threatened to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait along with the Strait of Hormuz if the US president carries out his threats to attack the country’s energy infrastructure.
Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, stated in a post on the "X" platform that "the unified command room of the Resistance Front views Bab al-Mandab as it views Hormuz."
The Bab al-Mandab is a strategic maritime passage that represents one of the corners of the triangle of strategic energy and food transport routes, along with the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal, located between Yemen in Asia and both Djibouti and Eritrea in Africa, effectively sitting at the crossroads of the five continents.
Velayati indicated that the White House will soon realize that global energy and trade flows can be disrupted with a single signal if it considers repeating its "foolish mistakes."
Meanwhile, the Iranian Vice President, Mohammad Reza Aref, stated that Trump is trying to "justify his inability to provide nursery and healthcare services to his people under the pretext of war."
Aref responded to Trump's threats to "return Iran to the Stone Age," stating that "anyone who sacrifices the welfare of their people to threaten others still lives in the Stone Age."
The Iranian official mentioned that "Iran has chosen a different path, it continues to build even under pressure."
On March 2, Iran announced restrictions on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to attack any ships trying to cross without coordination due to American and Israeli attacks against it.
Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been waging war on Iran, resulting in thousands of Iranian casualties, while Tehran retaliates with missiles and drones towards Israel.
Iran also targets what it claims to be American interests in Arab countries, resulting in casualties and damage to civilian properties, which the targeted countries condemned.
