Egypt and Jordan condemn the law to execute Palestinian prisoners and call for urgent international action
SadaNews - Both the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset's approval of the law to execute Palestinian prisoners, considering this step a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
Egypt emphasized in an official statement that this law constitutes a blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions and a serious undermining of the fundamental guarantees of fair trial, stressing that it institutionalizes a systematic discriminatory approach and reinforces an apartheid regime by differing its application between Palestinians and others, in contravention of the principles of justice and equality before the law.
For its part, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates deemed the law a racist, discriminatory, and illegitimate legislation that contradicts international law rules prohibiting the imposition of control over occupied territories through legislative frameworks imposed by the occupying power. The ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Fuad Majali, reiterated the Kingdom's absolute rejection of this law, considering it part of a systematic Israeli policy targeting the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights, foremost among them their right to self-determination.
Both sides stressed that this measure represents a violation of the existing legal status in the occupied Palestinian territories, warning of its serious repercussions on the stability of the situation and opportunities to contain escalation in the region.
Egypt and Jordan called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to take immediate and firm steps to halt these violations, prevent Israel from proceeding with the implementation of this law, and ensure the protection of the Palestinian people and the preservation of their legitimate rights, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.
