Trump Reschedules His Visit to China Due to Iran War
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he will make an official visit to China where he will meet with its President Xi Jinping on May 14 and 15, marking a change to the scheduling of a visit that has been closely monitored and postponed due to the ongoing war with Iran.
Trump added that he will host Xi in a similar visit to Washington later this year.
Trump said in a post on Truth Social: "Our representatives are finalizing the arrangements for these historic visits. I look forward to spending time with President Xi at an event I am sure will be historic."
Trump's visit was originally scheduled for next week from March 31 to April 2, and the talks were aimed at alleviating tensions between the world's two largest economies regarding tariffs, as well as issues related to Taiwan, semiconductors, drugs, rare metals, and agriculture.
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt stated that Xi Jinping understands the motivations behind the change in the visit's timing.
Trump's last visit to China in 2017 was the most recent by a U.S. president.
The upcoming visit will be the first direct meeting between the two presidents since their meeting last October in South Korea, where they agreed on a trade truce.
