Who is the new Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council?
SadaNews - The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian President, Mohammad Mahdi Tabatabai, announced the appointment of Mohammad Baqer Qadr as the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, succeeding Ali Larijani.
Here is what is known about Qadr:
He was born in 1955 in the city of Fasa, Fars Province, and joined the Iranian Revolutionary Guard immediately upon its establishment, becoming the head of its educational department in 1980.
In 2007, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Army for Basij Affairs (the paramilitary forces).
He held the position of Deputy Minister of Interior during the first decade of the 2000s under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
In 2012, he became the Deputy Chief of the Iranian Judiciary for Strategic Affairs.
Since 2022, he has been serving as the Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council, an authority responsible for resolving disputes between the parliament and the Guardian Council, and it plays a role in reviewing legislation.
He is known to be one of the founders of the Ansar "Hezbollah" paramilitary organization, according to international reports.
The Supreme National Security Council of Iran coordinates security and foreign policy files and includes representatives from the military, intelligence, and government, along with a representative from the Supreme Leader.
