Moscow and Beijing Warn of Losing Control of the Situation
SadaNews - China and Russia have warned about developments in the Middle East, the war on Iran, and the potential for the situation to spiral out of control.
In Beijing, China warned on Monday of the possibility of the situation in the Middle East getting out of control, following U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to destroy Iranian power stations if Tehran does not open the Strait of Hormuz.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated at a press conference in response to a question about Trump's threats, "If the war expands and the situation deteriorates further, the entire region may enter a state of chaos," according to what was reported by AFP.
In Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Russia opposes the closure of the Strait of Hormuz but emphasizes that such issues should be viewed in the context of the overall situation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that "Moscow hopes that the United States will be wise enough not to attack the Bushehr nuclear power plant in light of Trump's warning."
It indicated that "any U.S. ground operation in Iran does not seem realistic at this point, but if such plans are executed, it would exacerbate the conflict."
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko called on the United States and Israel to cease their aggression against Iran, stressing that this would help restore calm in the Strait of Hormuz.
