A Japanese Man Returns Home After Months of Detention in Iran
SadaNews - A spokesperson for the Japanese government said on Monday that one of the two Japanese citizens detained in Iran has safely returned to his homeland in good health.
The confirmation by Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara came a day after Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi announced the release of the individual.
Motegi stated on a talk show on Fuji TV on Sunday that the person had been detained since last year and was released on Wednesday.
He noted that the individual had taken a flight from Azerbaijan.
Kihara confirmed at a regular press conference on Monday that the former detainee returned to Japan on Sunday and is in good health.
Kihara mentioned that another Japanese citizen detained earlier this year remains in custody, but "we have confirmed that there are no issues regarding the safety and health" of this person, and Japan continues to press Iran for his release as soon as possible.
