IRGC Threatens to Respond in Kind if Electricity Networks are Targeted
SadaNews - The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowed today, Monday, to respond "in kind" to any targeting of the country's energy sector, confirming its readiness to strike Israeli power generation stations, in addition to the stations that supply electricity to American bases in the region, marking a new escalation in the navigation issue in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC stated in a statement published by official media that Tehran is determined to respond to any threat with the level of deterrence that it represents, adding, "If you attack the electricity networks, we will attack the electricity networks."
The statement denied American accusations regarding the IRGC's intention to attack desalination plants, stating, "The lying American president claimed that the IRGC intends to attack the desalination plants and cause harm to the peoples of the region."
This mutual escalation comes after a threat issued by the American president on Saturday to target Iranian power stations - starting with the largest - unless Tehran opens the Strait of Hormuz fully to the movement of ships within 48 hours.
President Donald Trump had earlier responded to Tehran's dismissal of his threats by saying: "We will see if the (Iranian Foreign Minister) is right or not."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed earlier that "the strait is not closed," considering that the hesitation of ships to pass is due to the concerns of insurance companies from the war ignited by Washington.
Araghchi emphasized that Tehran would not succumb to threats, calling on the American side to adopt a language of "respect," explaining that there is no freedom of navigation without freedom of trade.
Tehran has hinted at using its strongest strategic cards, threatening to completely close the Strait of Hormuz in the event of American strikes and stressed that reopening the strait will not occur before rebuilding all the damaged energy facilities.
The Iranian military also threatened to comprehensively target energy and information technology infrastructure if Trump carries out his threats, and the spokesperson for the Quds Force of the IRGC, Ibrahim Zolfaghari, confirmed that the Iranian response would be comprehensive and decisive.
