"They Tried to Enter a Nuclear Base" .. UK Arrests Two Suspected Spies for Iran

SadaNews - The British newspaper "The Sun" reported today, Friday, that authorities in the United Kingdom arrested two individuals suspected of being spies for Iran. This occurred after they "attempted to enter the British nuclear submarine base in Scotland" yesterday, Thursday.

Scottish police reported that they stopped a man and a woman after they attempted to enter the naval base in Scotland, which houses British nuclear-armed submarines.

The police stated that the incident took place at around five o'clock PM yesterday (17:00 GMT), clarifying that "a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing."

The British news agency indicated that the detained man holds Iranian nationality, while the Royal Navy confirmed the arrest but stated that they would not provide additional details "due to the ongoing investigation."

The Clyde naval base is home to the UK's most significant submarine fleet, including nuclear-armed submarines.

Britain has been a nuclear power since the 1950s. Since the 1990s, British nuclear deterrence relies on four submarines belonging to the Royal Navy, equipped with Trident missiles.

On the other hand, Iran recently announced the arrest of 500 individuals on charges of leaking information to "hostile parties," amid escalating military tensions within the country and ongoing American and Israeli strikes targeting Iranian territory.

According to Iranian authorities, half of the recorded cases fall under the category of "serious incidents," indicating that the accused provided coordinates and sensitive information used to target specific sites, in addition to some photographing the strike locations and sending them to external parties.

The British Telegraph newspaper revealed late last year, citing senior Iranian and Afghan officials, that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard began pursuing individuals suspected of links to British intelligence, based on a leaked list from the British Ministry of Defense obtained by Iran from within Afghanistan.

Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been conducting attacks on Iran, resulting in the deaths and injuries of hundreds of people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Secretary of the National Security Council Ali Larijani, and the ministers of intelligence and defense along with the commander of the Revolutionary Guard.

Iran retaliates with missile and drone strikes on Israel, in addition to targeting what it describes as military bases and American interests in the region. However, some of these strikes have resulted in casualties and injuries and harmed civilian facilities, which has been condemned by targeted Arab states, calling for an end to the assaults.
