Israel announces bombing sites in southern Syria

SadaNews - Israel announced on Friday that it carried out airstrikes on sites in southern Syria, in response to an alleged attack targeting Druze civilians in Sweida on Thursday.

The Israeli occupation army stated that "the airstrikes targeted a command and weapons headquarters in several Syrian army camps."

In a statement, the Israeli army said: "This came in response to yesterday's (Thursday) events, where Druze civilians were targeted in the Sweida area."

Mainstream Syrian media did not report news of these airstrikes, and details of the attack on the Druze remain unclear.

In a statement posted online, Druze factions active in the Sweida region claimed that 9 people were killed and 12 others were detained at a checkpoint, along with the "kidnapping" of 7 others, and that a missile and drone attack occurred on Thursday under circumstances for which no details were disclosed.

The Israeli army confirmed that it "will not allow harm to the Druze in Syria and will continue to work to protect them."

It also added that it "continues to monitor developments in southern Syria and will act according to the directives of political leadership."

This attack is considered the first of its kind on Syria since the beginning of the American-Israeli war on Iran.
