Washington Embassy in Baghdad Urges Americans to Leave Iraq Immediately

SadaNews - The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert on Saturday evening, urging Americans to leave Iraq immediately, warning of the increasing security threats and attacks carried out by Iran-aligned groups against U.S.-linked targets across the country, including the Kurdistan region.

The embassy stated in a statement that these "militias have encouraged and carried out random attacks" targeting Americans and U.S.-related facilities in various areas of Iraq, noting the repeated targeting of the Green Zone in central Baghdad, which remains closed with limited exceptions.

It added that the area around Erbil International Airport and the U.S. consulate in Erbil has also witnessed repeated attacks, warning Americans against attempting to go to the embassy in Baghdad or the consulate in Erbil due to the ongoing threat of rockets, drones, and mortars in Iraqi airspace.

The embassy confirmed the continuation of the level four travel warning, which states "do not travel to Iraq," justifying this by "the risks of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, and civil unrest," alongside the limited ability of the U.S. government to provide emergency services to its citizens within the country.
