Pro-Israel Hackers Breach Syrian Government Accounts on X

SadaNews - The Syrian government’s digital system has experienced a wide-ranging security breach, following a series of hacking attacks on official accounts and identifiers on the X platform, executed by hackers supportive of Israel. This incident is the largest of its kind, raising a wave of anger and questions regarding the effectiveness of the current "e-government" strategies.

List of Hacked Accounts: Paralysis in Official Communication

The cyber attack targeted vital state entities, as the following agencies lost control over their official identities, including the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the General Authority for Radio and Television, the General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports, the Supreme Committee for the People’s Council Elections, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Central Bank of Syria, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the Ministry of Education.

For its part, Syrian state television reported from a government source saying that "a number of government accounts on the X platform have been subjected to cyber attacks, resulting in temporary loss of access to them."

He added that specialized technical teams are currently working in the relevant ministries to address the incident and recover the affected accounts, in addition to enhancing protection measures.

He urged caution and vigilance and advised against interacting with any content issued by these accounts until an official announcement is made regarding their full recovery.

This incident sparked angry reactions among Twitter users and specialists, with many considering the hackers' access to sovereign accounts like the "General Secretariat of the Presidency" and the "Central Bank" raises serious questions about the level of digital protection and information security.

Activists and journalists posed direct questions to the Minister of Communications and Technology, asking: "Is there not an effective mechanism in place to protect official platforms yet?"
