Amazon Web Services Faces Power and Connectivity Issues in the UAE and Bahrain
SadaNews - Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud services unit of Amazon, stated that its cloud data centers in Bahrain and the UAE encountered power and connectivity issues on Monday, following retaliatory Iranian attacks targeting airports, ports, and residential areas in the Gulf region.
The company added, via its status page, that two regions under "Amazon Web Services" in the UAE, which are clusters of data centers, were without power on Monday, according to "Reuters".
Earlier, AWS stated on Sunday that the electrical supply feeding its data center in the UAE was temporarily cut off after objects struck the facility, causing sparks and a fire.
Amazon Web Services said: "We can confirm that a local power issue has affected another availability zone" in the UAE.
The company's website indicates that an "availability zone" consists of one or more physical data centers connected to each other. These zones are separate and isolated sites within each region operated by Amazon Web Services.
The cloud computing unit had earlier reported on Monday that some recovery was taking place in the region, but it is now asking customers to rely on its services in other areas, adding that recovery was expected to take "several hours".
The company neither confirmed nor denied, when asked earlier, whether the incident in the UAE was related to the Iranian strikes.
Amazon Web Services also reported local power issues in one of its regions in Bahrain.
