U.S. Officials: Our Options in Iran Include Targeting Individuals or Regime Change
SadaNews - Two U.S. officials told Reuters that U.S. military planning regarding Iran has reached an advanced stage, with options that include targeting individuals as part of an attack, and even seeking to change the regime in Tehran if ordered by President Donald Trump.
The military options are the latest indicators that the United States is preparing for a dangerous conflict with Iran if diplomatic efforts fail.
Last week, Reuters reported that the U.S. military is preparing to launch an operation against Iran that could last several weeks, potentially involving strikes on security facilities as well as nuclear infrastructure.
The latest information suggests more detailed and ambitious planning is underway before Trump makes a decision. Trump has publicly raised the idea of changing the ruling regime in Iran in recent days.
Draft Agreement
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran would be ready to present a draft agreement to the United States within days, following President Donald Trump's threat of military action.
In an interview with "Morning Joe" on MSNBC that aired on Friday, Araghchi stated, "My next step is to present a draft of a possible agreement to my counterparts in the United States. I believe it will be ready in two or three days, and after the final approval from my superiors, it will be handed over to Steve Biegun," according to "AFP".
Araghchi confirmed on Friday that "there is no military solution to the Iranian nuclear program," indicating that this path "has been tried before... and extensive attacks targeted our facilities, and our scientists were assassinated, but they could not eliminate our nuclear program."
In the phone interview, Araghchi explained that the reason for this is that "this program was developed by our hands and the efforts of our scientists, this technology belongs to us, and it cannot be destroyed by bombing or military action."
The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that "the only solution is diplomacy," pointing out that "the United States has returned to the negotiating table and is seeking an agreement."
