Bangladesh Nationalist Party Declares Victory in First Election After 2024 Uprising
SadaNews - The Bangladesh Nationalist Party announced its victory in the first elections held in the country since the 2024 uprising, placing it in a position to form the next government and potentially reshape the political landscape in Bangladesh after years of fierce competition and disputed elections.
The party's media unit stated in a post on the "X" platform this Friday that the party has secured enough seats in parliament to govern alone, although the Election Commission has not yet announced the final results, despite several local media outlets reporting the party's victory.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is led by Tarique Rahman, the party's candidate for Prime Minister.
Rahman, 60 years old, returned to Bangladesh in December after 17 years in voluntary exile in London. He is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, who passed away last December.
